Clinical Trials / Drug Trials When used during on-pump cardiac surgery, the blood-conserving drugaprotinin appears to be safe. However, when used in combination withangiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors during off-pump cardiacsurgery, it has been associated with a significant risk of renaldysfunction in the postoperative phase.
